    I take it a mate can give you a lift and drop you off if no money changes hands?

    I don't think your travel insurance is invalid. I queried this regarding private let apartments last year. The answer I got back was if an accident happened while abroad, IRRESPECTIVE or where it occurred, then the insurance is valid ( at least my policy was ). The motor insurance on the car however, would be ( invalid)

    That's fine just like us picking McQ up (except he doesn´t let us know he is coming !!)  It is the 'friends' that expect payment they are clamping down on.  They can also pick them up by the number of times they visit the airport because the have cctv checking the number plates  (allegedly)
