Why is it so expensive to change flight details...

Post by Adam Mint on Fri 26 Jun 2015 - 12:09

You may recall I touched on this one a year or so back when Annie's brother died, he was booked to go on holiday with a group of friends, he died about a month pre the holiday date, it was his wish that his wife still go on holiday with their friends, she asked Annie to accompany her (I also booked last minute flights/accommodation and went as well), Annie phoned the holiday company her brother had booked with and explained situation, £125 I think it was to change Desmond to Ann, change a tick in a box from male to female, change date of birth, and passport number if they had already printed boarding boarding passes which I don't think they had at the time, Annie asked under the circumstances could anything be done to reduce the cost, answer, surely your brother was insured, they will compensate for his and his wife's costs if she wishes to cancel...

Annie's forthcoming trip to Tenerife, one of the girls has had to pull out, it's one of Annie's daughters step sisters, she's one of triplets, three girls, one of her sisters has said she will go in her place, so all that needs to be changed on the paperwork is the christian name,,, same surname, same sex, same date of birth as already entered on booking form, note, boarding passes had not been printed at this stage so no passport details to change,,, the cost of changing one christian name, two hundred and ten pounds,,, how do they justify that...

Yip, fair enough someone buying cheap flights and possibly selling them on, but when it's obvious something's gone tits up with someone's holiday plans why punish them more, in both the cases I mention it's obvious nobodies out to make a profit out of it, both were package deals, Annie's brother and his wife book a double room, why try to sell half the holiday to someone you don't know with a view of making a profit... Annie's current holiday was booked through On The Beach, ten in the group, so not a bad booking, so obvious again when she try's to change one person it's not being sold to a stranger, just something's gone tits up a bit for one of the party, she initially called On The Beach to see if she could change the name, they wanted £170, she said she would get back to them, their flight out is with Monarch and return with Ryan Air, she phoned Monarch to see what they would charge, she was told because she had booked through On The Beach she had to deal with them, so no point phoning Ryan Air, she phones On The Beach the next day, they now want £210, she asks why not the £170 she had been told, answer, depends on the price of the flights at the time...
Feckin robbery, ok charge a token amount for the admin, but £210 to change a name when it's obvious nobody's profiteering, robbing bas#ards...

     Again...
