Love it,,, my pet hate, "Bridge Bashing", was involved in transport most of my life, the government pass a law to stop it, a sign in the cab telling the driver the height of the truck, wast of feckin time and money,,, bridges being bashed every day, kid got killed a year or so back when load of truck hitting a bridge hit her,,, answer, sensors linked to traffic lights that stop anything overhight,,, the technology's been around fur years, bridge in Edinburgh on the main Edinburgh Glasgow line got hit all the time, this system was fitted to it tens of years ago, never hit since,,, sort it out...

Oh, and I sat on a commity that discussed this problem, we knew the answer, but what did we get, the cheap option that we knew wouldn't sort out the problem, such a simple fix..........

Had a Ryder Truck franchises as a sideline to our main business, sometimes I would go in to work on a Saturday as no one expected me to be there and it gave me a chance to catch up on paperwork without being disturbed, the truck rental bit was mainly commercial but this Saturday joe public walked in wanting to rent a Luton Transit, rental office wasn't manned so somebody knocks my door asking what to do, I get involved, it was a young couple wanting to hire a van to flit over the weekend, I explain we don't have a Luton Transit in the yard but have a 7.5 ton Ford Cargo with tail lift that I can let them have for the same price, guy who's gonna be driving ain't to sure about it, I explain his licence covers him and actually the 7.5 tonner ain't much bigger than the Transit, I take him and his wife for a test drive around the industrial estate we're based on, paperwork done they piss off in to blue yonder. Monday morning I drive in to the yard, one well fu#ked 7.5 tonner sitting there, passenger side wing mirror ripped off, nearside  side of body two feet further back than the other side, tail lift tied on with a bit of rope, and the bit that confused me, the fibreglass body roof with a big split lengthwise in it as if somebody's given it a big karate chop,,, I phone Ryders head office and say Houston we've got a bit of a problem here,,, about ten o'clock guy and his wife turn up, very apoligetic, I ain't ready giving a shit, it ain't my truck, I ask what happened, they're only yards from their destination, guy gets it a bit wrong and catches a lamppost with the nearside of the truck, I say I'm a bit confused about the big split in the roof, his wife says that's where the lamppost fell through it and and ruined our furniture...

Oh and the location of the accident, Cams country, Halbeath Road just past the Elizabethan pub...

When I worked for Dublin Bus, one of our drivers decided to take a detour around  @ 300 metres of road works as the stops were temporarily out of use anyway near the works. He swings down a side street , hit the railway bridge and opened the top like a feckin can opener. The one passenger that was upstairs had decided to ask the driver why he was going off route and was actually on the stairs on the way down when the collision happened. Passenger fell on the stairs, claimed 60000 in compo, 250000 euro bus written off and driver got sent back for a 1 day refresher course in the driving centre.

No, I had a look online and searched for "Dublin Pub Medical equipment" but nothing showed up. I probably know the pub by name and would be surprised if I didn't have a pint in it at some stage. The only one I could think of that had posters and music was this
    http://www.gogartys.ie/

but that one is one of the worst for upping to drink prices as the night goes on. That whole area was much better before they redeveloped it

the UK has the LOWEST ´´loading guage´´ for trains in europe ,thats why to get rid of overcrowding
everyone else has double decker trains  ... so rebuilt the bridges with higher road clearence and
    get rid of overcrowding overnight
hopfully the REBUBLIC OF ALBA will do this as it will have control over railways and can take over the scotrail service ...

It was on a corner like that, but not so colourful, that said it was a good few years back and things change...

Didn't tell the full story the other day, as said must have hit the pub about midday and left about seven, we got in to company with the guy who was holding the gig together, he wanted to get in to my birds knickers and I wanted to play his guitar, so deal done we all became friends,,, then seven o'clock came round, he's got to go cos he's playing another gig in a club on some big industrial estate out of town, now my bird knew this industrial estate cos she had an offshore bank account with an Irish bank that was based there, anyway that apart, we say to guy we're gonna have to go and get something to eat, he says I know just the place, so off we head with him, he having guitar in hand, we only walk a short distance and he stops in front of what must be one of the poshest hotels in Dublin, if I remember correct through my drunken haze it was a Georgian style building in a square of some sort, me thinks this meals gonna cost a few bob, but no, he's a taxi driver and his mini cabs just parked outside the place, in we get, this guys pissed as a fart by the way, off we set on what I recall as being the longest hill in the world, eventually we get to his diners heaven, a feckin cabbies butty caff,,, WTF,,, he drops us off saying this is the best place to eat then fu#ks off in to the distance to his gig,,, we stand their like two lost pricks, which we were waiting on one of his mates finishing his bacon butty to drive us back in to town...

Would I do it again,,, Yes..............
