Hi all, I haven't been on in ages just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Sadly due to me having a gall bladder operation which was scheduled for mid/late January we were not really in a position to make a booking. I have now had my op and almost fully recovered but have decided just to wait until June before we go on holiday.

I have started to look at winter holidays for winter 2015/16 and even looking at Christmas/New Year.

The Canaries are our preferred (only one really) destination for winter sun holidays so yes we will probably be back, although we do now have the option of flights to Gran Canaria all year round direct from Aberdeen.

    Hi welcome back H.

Have you been to GC before?  It is very different to Tenerife so if you don't know it then do plenty off research.  Not to everyones taste.

Yes Adam, I imagined it would like Tenerife only smaller, was very disappointed, well not quite true, I hated it.  Felt Playa de Ingles very run down and tatty.  Went all around the island as took the car and nothing could compare.  Maybe we have been spoilt  Hello from Hayzer 3275847336

I actually like Gran Canaria a lot. I've never been in Playa Del Ingles pretty much for the same reasons I dont go into Pdla or Los Cris ( though am going to have a right nosey about this summer in Los Cris especially). We stayed in an old(ish) part of Puerto Rico or in the lovely Puerto de Mogan. The only reason we stopped was that we couldn't take the heat in the summers.
Having said all that, Tenerife has more to offer. I've never seen the Anaga mountains or Orotava . On the west coast, I've never been passed Masca. Things that will keep me busy over the coming years. Hello from Hayzer 3025408739

We went to Lanzarote in 2013. Eileen and myself had the most relaxing holiday ever there in September 1999 in Puerto Del Carmen. We drove down there for a meal one evening. Yuuukkk! We stayed in Playa Blanca and while it was nice was very spread out and required a 25 minute walk to the nearest restaurant. Also in Lanza, what else is there to do once you do the Timanfaya trip?? We ended up getting the ferry to Coralejo in Fuerteventura where strangely enough, there was a good buzz about the place.

    Hi all

We have been to GC a couple of times both in June we stayed in Maspalomas and Costa Meloneras and thought it was OK. We didn't do much in the way of touring there bur did get as far as Puerto Mogan which we loved.

To be honest on a winter holiday all we are looking for is a a nice hotel and some sunshine. We have enjoyed Costa Adeje and would go back but probably not to the Costa Adeje Gran Hotel.

First went to Gran Can many years ago, was based in a new development just round the corner from Puerto Rico, spent a lot of time up at Mogan, loved it, was back there about eight years back, hotel in Playa de ingles, place was rundown and dead, went up to Mogan one day, developed and spoiled...

Lanz, stayed Carmen, a one street non wonder, went down to Blanca one day, nice but not a lot there, Tenerife, been so often couldn't even guess how many times, been Caribbean a couple of times, still rather be Tenerife, but had to tick the box...

I was actually asking Adam Mint whether when he went back to Gran Canaria, if it was Mogan or Puerto Mogan that he found had got built up Hello from Hayzer 3025408739

We were there in 2008 and found it lovely. They call it the Venice of the Canaries. There is/was an Irish bar right on the waters edge in the marina called Dennehy's. We stayed in apartments owned by the owners of the bar. Turned out the owner knew my brother very well but we only figured that out on the 2nd last night. When we turned up on the last night all our food and drink was on the house. Liam and his wife ( cant think of her name) joined us. I had to be poured onto the plane the next morning Hello from Hayzer 3025408739

Purto Mogan, first time there it was real, it's was about four times bigger last time I was there, spoiled,,, entertainment back then was the bar owner on guitar, stopped when someone wanted served, missed the last bus back to the hotel one night, he drove us back along that coast road,,, and he had as much to drink as us,,, good job we were all pissed...

But first time I was there in Mogan village there was a resturant, drove past it one day, just looked like a cottage from the outside, but there was a very sexy looking woman at the door, so got a taxi there one night, she owned it, inside the place was so sexy and chilled out, beautifull waitresses, great food, shame they were all batting for the other side...

Yip, that looks like it, we were in the only hotel open at the time, couple more were being built, one shack of a bar/resturant on the black beach. At the time so no discussions where to go for a beer, simples....

I'd go back there ( Puerto Rico ) for a week during the winter no problem. Puerto Mogan might be a bit quiet then. I know a lad who goes over every year , himself and his missus. Last time, they rented a 2 bed apt in this place ( [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ). They took it for 3 months and it worked out at 32 euro a night. They had their kids,  grandkids over and some of their extended family. He said that even paying for the apartment, he lived cheaper over there than he did in Ireland.

No, its not Amadores then. That was a man made horse shoe beach with imported sand from the Caribbean. It had a load of restaurants right on the sand but the place went dead at night after 10pm.

It probably was Amadores then. We loved it. There was a cliff walk from the marina in Puerto Rico out to it ( 2005).
