Is there anywhere near Edinburgh airport ( within 5 mile radius) where I can get a good breakfast? Our flight will be landing @ 7:45 and I don't want to pay rip off prices in the airport itself.

If you're heading in to Edinburgh, one of the first things you come to is the Gyle Shopping Center, it's about two miles from the airport, there's a big Morrisons there, I have had breakfast in there before prices were ok, plus free parking...

I'd go with Minty's suggestion Dermo. When you come out the airport onto A8, head towards Edinburgh city centre, after about 1/2 mile you'll pass under a bridge with RBS logo on it. After another 1/2 mile at the next junction take the lane for the Gyle shopping centre. (Keep your eyes peeled, the lanes are a bit confusing as it's a big junction). Once you're in the gyle just look for Morrisons. FAO Lone Ranger, Mermaid and Searcher 294053457

If your going there 3rd, It's a big car park, Morisons is at the Airport end of the building, so as you drive in to the carpark keep to your left and head towards that end of the building, at that time of the morning suspect you'll probably be able to park virtually outside Morrisons door...

as LR says it is a big roundabout so keep your eyes peeled
if i remember rightly you want to be in middle if not nearer to the right hand side.
depending on what day you are landing it could be busy with rush hour commuters so you may find yourself stuck as the junction has blocked
i used to work at the rbs building and my bus went through gyle but i'm trying to remember if the driver just kept skipping lanes to get round the traffic...

You gotta negotiate the junction anyway to get to the pad you've rented, yip it's gonna be busy as is the the whole of Edinburgh at that time, so may as well be sitting having breakfast till it calms down a bit.
I know what I'd be doing, it's just a case of following the signs for the Gyle Shopping Centre, its right next to junction, when living in Scotland negotiated the junction night and morning for year, yip its busy, but that's due to the road network planning being shite...

I think we'll go to that centre for brekkie and then to the nearest Argos to get a child seat for the hire car ( £14 a day thro the company!!) and then on to the Falkirk wheel for a boat trip. Let the kids do the "water walking" thing, then into Easter road/London road , get into the apartment. Go round the corner to Sainsbury's, buy some grub and booze. Bring it back, stroll across to the Playfair Theatre and get dinner in Frankie and Benny's. Simples!

There's an Argos at Craigleith Edinburgh, about fifteen minutes from breakfast place but that means heading in to Edinburgh, that said its on the side of Edinburgh your on an easy to get to, on the other hand there's on at Linlithgoe on the way to Falkirk, and Falkirk itself, never been to them so not sure what there like to get to, suspect Linlithgoe best bet, not a busy place plus palace there to look at if that's your thing...

There are loads of planes Dermo from all over the world, you go into several hangars and there's also a parachute making factory.
