    Problem with Internal Phone wiring??

    Post by 3rdforum on Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 19:32

F.A.O. Cam or Reg ( or anyone who can help)

My broadband works fine up until @ 6.30pm each day. It then drops from 5.5 meg to 1.5. My ISP ran an check and said there is an internal problem. The telephone engineer did some kind of test from the exchange and said that my router was causing a short circuit on the phone line. I have gone through 5 routers in the last 3 years. They work fine for a couple of months and then they degrade. Most evenings, my router will drop the connection 3 or 4 times. Any suggestions??

Sorry Dermo, can't help you pal, I know nothing about broadband that isn't freely available on Google. When I was on the tools it was all copper wires and phones, I wasn't involved in the broadband side of it. We have specialist BB engineers now whose job it is just to fit routers, ISDN, etc. I'm clueless!

Thanks anyway Cam. There is interference on the phone line ( the broadband comes in that way, no fibre here yet. ). I've switched every electrical device off in the hosue to see if that would improve things. No joy. I'm suspicious that the wiring itself may be to blame.

Most ISP will drop speeds around then as its peak time, more so noticeable on low internet speed, who is your provider & what router do you have, what else is connected to it? Surely your provider will replace the router.

Just read you have interference,I'd try a normal house phone ( not wireless ) in the master socket,if prob is still there its there fault mate....

Next door neighbour is with Vodafone as well Jabba. His connection doesn't drop at any time. There is slight interference on the master socket. I'll borrow the neighbours phone and plug it in just to rule out my phone as being the source of the fault.

Was onto Vodafone last night Jabba. They ran a test on the line and showed no fault up to the point of entry to the house. My internet light on the router is constantly blinking on and off. I'm not sure if this is how it should be or if there is an intermittent fault on the actual wiring that causes it to constantly short circuit.
