    However the other day I bought a box of 12 mince pies in a Christmassy type box and I'm now shocked to discover they have a sell by date of Dec 11th. Culinary delight thread... - Page 4 2419626307  So we'll scoff them too with some custurd. Wont mention the shop where I bought them suffice to say it starts with L and ends in L. Bloody 'ell, cheeky feckers will be losing goods to the value next time.......

    Thats always happens at Christmas as well. You go food shopping and the bloody use by date is 24th Dec. What good is that for christmas and the coming days.

    Came across this on the BBC site, whats new...

    Cupboard was bare one night, couldn't be arsed going to the shop, so what we got...

    1 tin mackerel fillets in olive oil.
    1 tin chopped tomatoes.
    1 onion.
    Garlic bulb.
    Pasta shells.
    Salt, pepper herbs (basil and oregano).

    Put pasta on to boil, pour oil from fish in to frying pan, chop onion and about four cloves of garlic in to pan, add salt, pepper and herbs, fry until onion soft, add fish and tomatoes, season again as required, and simmer for five minutes or so, drain and add pasta to sauce, stir in and let heat through in sauce for a couple of minutes, yum for something out of nothing...
    Have tried it with sardines but not as tasty, plus they tend to mush up a bit...
