I'm going to give you it Kev, 'cos I don't think we'll get much closer. It is in fact called an "Over-reach boot". When a horse is tired it may "over-reach" with it's back leg which then hits it's fore leg. If the horse is shod it can give a nasty injury. These "boots" were put on the foreleg to stop the injured part being repeatedly hit.
