Why Xmas?
Why Xmas in place of Christmas? Well the Greek for "Christ" is "Christos" but begins with an "X". ((ancient Greek: Χριστός, Christós, meaning 'anointed'), hence the abbreviated "Xmas". Clever forum this...

Re: Why Xmas?
I picked it up off TA, it was linked to Spain, on there but we know what happens here so I just went to the beginning for you. Not really had a chance to look at more than a couple of pages myself.

Re: Why Xmas?
Just read the Ireland one and saw the "Wren Boys" piece. That doesn't happen anymore except in Dingle. My brother and his son still do it where they live/ He dresses up in costume and goes from pub to pub playing music and collecting for charity. He has raised thousands over the years and normally gets shitfaced to boot ( loads of free pints are sent over to him during the course of the day).

Re: Why Xmas?
Nice avatar Mr D.......
Will you be here for the N Year, if so we are having a get together sometime between 2nd and 4th as yet to be decided. If you are around let me know and I will send you the details once they have been finalised (not before Wednesday when I meet some newly landed members) I know I can speak on behalf of McQ and TD and a couple of others, you will be very welcome.
