In all the societies/countries that I can think of, including North Korea which lets face it none of us know much about, there are those at the top with the wealth and power, not many of them, a few strata of those in the middle who can so easily fall off the perch and the no-hopers at the bottom, used to be called the working class but that has now become split into two with the hero's who work for £6 odd an hour and the work shy dope smokers that in the UK anyway we seem perfectly happy to accommodate and feed. Meerkats are currently on QI as I write, they have a clear pecking order too.
You wanna cross the road, let the kids check it out...................

searcher wrote:If there is a yes vote, there will have to be a general election here, if things run true to form the people will return a socialist government, Alex may have a seat in that parliament but it will be in opposition, but one thing you can bet your shirt on is the fact that no Tory government will ever govern Scotland
OK, let's assume you get a yes vote,,, I will diverse for a moment, two weeks ago I would have put money on a no vote, today I'd leave my money in my pocket, but think the surge for a yes vote will also trigger a few no voters to get off their ass and vote... Anyway to get back to assuming you get a yes vote,,, well based on your theory that Labour will get back in, your country's fu#ked, all labour have ever done is spend the money the Tories have made,,, your (Scotland) is five or so percent of the UK population, so with all the lazy feckers up there claiming the dole etc, where's the money gonna come from, oh, oil I forgot,,, that ain't enough,,, every major company based in Scotland is making contingency plans to set up subsidiary companies in England should the yes vote go through, why, cos are all their English customers, probably ninety percent plus of their customer base, gonna want to deal with a company that has broken it's ties with the UK,,, as I have said previously the Scottish company I worked with when the last independence vote thing came up immediately set up plans to move our head office to England where the majority of our business was, it didn't happen then, but it has since due to a take over, that company's plans now irrespective of the independence vote is to pull out of Scotland, the reason, it ain't worth the bother, very few people spread over a wide area, to expensive to service, not worth the bother... So how's this Labour government gonna fund your socialism, oh borrow money, who from,,, your gonna defunk on your debts so no one ain't gonna lend you feck all,,, Get real..........

And in The Blue Corner......................In the Red Corner..............................Seconds out, Box.
As said no one is doing owt for the voter, all about grab what they can, Bring down the wall and break up the USSR, not the same or even same scale, but one or two are going to get very rich out of this, do they really care. Is Tuna or whatever his face is really bothered, he has made a fortune and will carry on doing so, no matter what the result as will the other shites. Socialism is fantastic if really possible but as Vince said, not possible, too much greed, too many power hunters, too many different people, realism prevails, UK is fecked no matter what, Scotland is fecked no matter what and if Russia continue the way they are going, the world is fecked no matter what.

Re: Scottish Independence
I would imagine one of the first things an independent Scotland would do, is lower the corporate tax rate, which would not only keep the vast majority of the current services industry, but also entice even more foreign investment. And this thing that only the oil will keep the economy going is a misnomer. We have feck all natural resources yet we still managed to keep our heads afloat during the worst recession of the states history. ( Btw, ours WASNT an economy led collapse, it was bank led.). Scotland has so much going for it imo. Ye probably are one of the world's most attractive tourist destinations. But the main thing going for it is that there is already a solid infrastructure in place ( road network, broadband, public service etc ). As I said before, the game has changed. No matter what the outcome, new powers will be winging their way to Edinburgh. All the other regional parliaments will want the same. England will want ( and should get) its own parliament. The break up of the UK as it currently exists has started.

Nah, Ireland is a similar sized economy subject more or less to the same parameters that an independent Scotland would have. Its easy to see what should and shouldn't be done, using Ireland's experiences as a reference.

Makes me laugh when I hear tories preaching about being stronger together in a union of countries and with the next breath demanding a referendum to take the whole U.K. out of the European Union

Another thing on the news, large companies, oil, banks, insurance, all openly admitting their fears for the break up of the union and their contingency plans to move investment out of Scotland...

Re: Scottish Independence
Standard Life currently pay tax at 21%. I wonder what would happen the contingency plans if Scotland were to offer a tax rate of e.g. 12.5%???

The first paragraph of the article reads:-

If RBS and LLoyds relocate to London, it is the holding company that will move, not the entire company.
