I try not to discuss politics if I can avoid it so all I will say is that after I vote I will be able to hold my head in the air with pride and tell anyone that asks that I did the right thing[win or lose] nobody will ever say that I let my countrymen down

If the question they are being asked is "Do you AGREE that Scotland SHOULD be an independent country?" the result is totally meaningless as even if they get a majority Yes vote, it doesn't actually mean that the people WANT independence, they're only agreeing that Scotland SHOULD be an independent country, NOT become and independent country.

I'm quite happy as we are, taking all the English money so we can have free prescriptions and university education...

Someone asked an interesting question on a local radio chat show today.

What do UKIP and SNP do if they get their way and the UK leaves the EU and Scotland votes for independence as it makes them both redundant as that seems to be the only thing they stand for ??

Apparently, they also want to retain Sterling as their currency with the Bank of England as their lender of last resort.

Bank of England was established in 1694 and Bank of Scotland one year later. Scotland and England still were independent countries at this time, not joining Parliaments until 1707. Bank of Scotland is the only Institution in existence today that was founded by the independent Scottish Parliament.

A Scotsman founded the Bank of England and an Englishman founded the Bank of Scotland.

As there are 2 separate banks, what is stopping Scotland from devaluing their pound? Is there some kind of fiscal link between the two? Also, is Scottish money legal tender in England or vice versa?? Seem to remember s'thing like this on the other forum

Scottish notes are "Legal Currency" as opposed to "Legal Tender". Not even Bank of England notes are "Legal Tender" in Scotland. See here for reasoning...[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Bit too complicated for me.

Here is a wee thing for people who question what will happen if Scotland votes for independence, at present there are many thousands of Irish , English, Welsh etc who would have voted for independence, will THEY be denied U.K. citizenship ?

It is not just Scots that have the vote in the referendum ,everyone on the voting register is entitled to vote,

If as some folk say we cannot have dual nationality what nationality will the folks who are not Scots be ?

The same arguement applies to Scots living elsewhere

At present we can use British consular services as we pay our share of taxes , in the event of independence all that will be required is the use of these services until our own are up and running , we could also probably use other countries embassies in the short term as well
