Re: Scottish Independence
I'm sure there is, being a big company they can move stuff about to make one part look bad but at the end of the day if they feel its not worth their while to keep going thats what happens.

Re: Scottish Independence
So, the Institute of Fiscal Studies have come up with this, they've obviously been looking at my posts, didnt need a calculator to work than one out did you...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
And what did Mr Swinney (Scotland's financial secretary) come back with, he said, "there will be opportunities arising as a consequence of independence"...
I'll loosely translate that in to English for you, "we're fu#ked"...

Re: Scottish Independence
And what the SNP came back with in their master plan:-
(Scottish government statements in black, my comments in red)
Where might the jobs come from?
(Scottish government statements in black, my comments in red)
Where might the jobs come from?
- Increasing Scotland's productivity performance by 1% could boost employment by about 21,000over the long-term.
- So suddenly because its an independent country people are going to work harder...
- Increasing Scotland's economic activity rate of one percentage point would be equivalent to an extra 30,000 plus people in the labour market.
- And what button do you press to do that...
- Reducing corporation tax, and changing the tax system in general, could create approximately27,000 jobs.
- Yip, and where would those jobs be, Centre One East Kilbride...
- An increase in Scottish exports by 50% could create more than 100,000 jobs in the long-term.
- Can't disagree with that one, just one small problem, how do you suddenly get other country's to double what they already purchase from Scotland, oh, we're an independent country now so you gotta fell sorry for us and buy twice as much...

"Should Scotland be an independent country".
I can't understand why, if we are "taking" so much money off England (as Vince is fond of reminding us
), why is the UK government fighting so hard for us to stay?
Thought they would be glad to see the back of us. But, then, the oil hasn't run out yet has it?

Re: Scottish Independence
Scotland and Ireland could join up to form a new state, Hibernia. Then we could use all yere experience with oil exploitation to bring ashore our stuff. There is a conservative estimate of 400 billion offshore. We'd all be swimming in money and could pay the English and Minty to do the more menial work that will obviously be beneath us then.

This is one of the replies to the article above, remember, the Shetlanders don't think it's Scotland's oil...The Lone Ranger wrote:Dermo. Here's the latest on the oil situation. See how we've been sponging for years...

The Scotsman Newspaper By the way, that's £3 Trillion last year alone...
"The SNP is facing accusations of an "outrageous" plan to grab all the tax revenue from the Northern Isles' oil and gas fields if Scotland votes for independence regardless of their residents' wishes.
Stewart Stevenson, a former minister and confidante of Alex Salmond, triggered a furious row by stating Shetland had too few residents to legally have any say in the destination of billions of pounds of oil revenues in its waters.
But Tavish Scott, the Shetland MSP, used a Holyrood debate to highlight a new expert report laud the "strong" negotiating position of the islands if Scots vote for separation in the forthcoming referendum.
He said Capital Economics, one of the world's leading economic research firms, was stating the "obvious truth" that Shetlanders would have a major influence over North Sea oil revenues, around a quarter of which derive from fields around the islands.
Shetland's residents have traditionally been hostile to Scottish independence and prefer Westminster government to that from Holyrood. They were part of Norway until the late 15th century.
When Shetland's local authority held a referendum 35 years ago asking if residents wanted to be part of an independent Scotland, the result was nine to one against."
