It appears to be easier to just set up a Just Giving page and expect others to pay for the assistance than pay a bit extra on the trip. Remember the time when you had to have insurance to buy the holiday etc or you did not go.

We still have to prove to the Travel Agents we have insurance for the river cruises Dave.

Is the river cruise covered by the normal travel insurance or did you have to pay a supplement on top to cover the cruise which seems a rip off if you did.

Re: Make sure you have travel insurance.
This thread seems appropriate place on this one, friend of Sharon's is over in Goa at the moment, he sends her a photograph of his calf, burnt and blistered to hell, he's crossing road, squeezes between a row of motorbikes to get on to pavement (picture below shows how they park out there) as he's squeezing between them his leg got jammed between two bikes, had shorts on and the exhaust of one the bikes was red hot,,, oops,,, needs insurance for two reasons, "1" his leg, and "2" damage to seven motorbikes,,, in his panic/pain he pushes motorbike away from his leg, domino effect innit...

I think there was an extra £5/head for the cruise part Dave...

I know about that Carol but for a cruise on a river or lake in Europe where there would not be much of a problem with reaching a hospital or doctor if needed is a bit of a ripoff in my way of thinking. I was just looking on the web site where it states "The EHIC is not valid on cruises" so perhaps that is why they load it like when you are of a certain age and may need the heath cover a bit more.

Sorry just seen this yes your normal travel insurance covers you on a river cruise but not an ocean cruise.
The ethic card serves its purpose now but will it next year that is the question ? x
