A few weeks ago I got a letter from Transport for London informing me I had been fined £750 for driving my camper van in the London zone in September. It was originally £500 but they upped it as I had not paid up. As I never got an original notification I'm thinking to myself nice scam pal, will I pay, will I FECK as like! Anyway I had wrongly assumed that camper vans under 3500kg were exempt but no, they changed the rules some years ago so I was blissfully anaware and probably drive it in London about every 3 months I guess. In fact it has been there at least twice since September so thats a grand total of £2,250 they will likely be chasing me for. I was just biding my time and quite looking forward to my day in Court but I havent actually contacted them about it thinking I will leave the ball in their court and see what transpires. Well today I get a letter from them informing me the fine has been cancelled and if I have already paid I will get a refund.
No explanation, nowt! So I spent some time trawling the web but to no avail. Its my guess somebody has indeed fought them in the Courts and won their case. If this is so then well done pal, you are my hero.
