Watched a documentary recently about USA rail accidents, would seem there are about six train/vehicle accidents a day...

Recall the first time I came across one of them crossings, Cams country, was heading out of Dunfermline on a back road off Halbeath Road where the retail park is now, came across the rail crossing, barriers up no lights flashing or anything but I came to a stop and checked both ways before crossing,,, think it was a throwback to when I was a kid, mothers side of family lived in the country, there was local grocery van went around all the villages and farms, everyone knew the guy that drove it, he had to cross the west cost main line to get to some of the farms, these we're just dirt tracks and where they crossed the rail tracks all there was was a telephone stuck on a fence post that connected you to the local signal box, plan being you called to check and see if it was ok to cross the track,,, no one ever did, you just took a look down the tracks and crossed, had done it loads of times when on holiday and out with one of my uncles on his bakery van run,,, well the groccery van driver got it wrong one day, SPLAT,,, said uncle was also in the auxiliary fire brigade and was called out to incident,,, I recall him telling stories of the event and of how he had to walk a mile or so up the track picking up parts of the guys body...

    Still don't like them crossings...

Yep...there used to be a wee restaurant called Armando's Hideaway just after you crossed the rail tracks.
