    Question for the mechanically minded

    Post by 3rdforum on Mon 7 Nov 2016 - 8:04

Reg, Vince or Minty in particular. The engine management light comes on my dash whenever I hit @ 2700rpm. The van doesn't go into limp mode or anything, just the light goes on. Any ideas why? It resets as soon as I turn the engine off. It's nearly acting as a speed warning cos it only comes on @ 65mph

Sounds a soft wear problem if nothing else happens, bit like women ignore it or it will cost £££

No idea Dermot, vehicle electrics not my forte. You could put larger profile tyres on the driven wheels, that would increase your speed at 2700 rpm. You might even try removing the battery for half an hour. Bit like rebooting compooter.

Its all electrics this week. Panda now working again after another breakdown. Coil this time. And the parking lights are on all the time like a Volvo. I have sent off for a Haynes manual, they have wiring diagrams in. Thank god its not a modern car or I would have no chance. Also electric motor on oil central heating boiler faulty. If I spin the fan round with a wooden spoon, boiler is in kitchen like, it will start and stop all evening as it should but wont start again when I switch it on the next day. I will take it apart tomorrow and have a look as I know all about electric motors. nosey Freds car wont start either. Starter spinning too slow. Earthed out engine to battery and starter live to battery + with jump leads and it starts so its one of those thick cables. When thats sorted we can take it to get a new clutch..............  Not going to even attempt that in this weather. Grease monkey job.
