This is the saddest thing I have read for a long time.

An elderly man walked into a Cajaseite bank in La Laguna on Thursday morning and asked employees to call the police after he held them up at knife point.

Police arrived shortly afterwards and found the man sitting quietly on a bench outside the bank with a bag of money at his side.

It transpired that the old gentleman was at his wits end because of financial difficulties and thought that at least in prison he would be fed and have a place to sleep

I saw that Gypsy. The UK may be crap, but at least any law-abiding citizen doesn't have to go to the lengths this poor old fella had to go to just to get a meal...sad indeed.
